Over 30 years ago Neil Oxendale began his journey into the grocery world as a 15-year-old bagging groceries at the neighborhood store Jubilee Foods (eventually Nokomis Food Pride).Neil continued working there with his brother, sister and many friends throughout high school and college. In early 2007 Neil approached the store owners and told them he wanted to buy the store.
In the fall of 2007 Oxendales Market Nokomis location was opened. Months were spent bootstrapping through a remodel while expanding services and product selection. It was quickly discovered the importance of building relationships with local farmers and local food producers. Neighborhood engagement went to new levels, food sampling days turned into events in the parking lot. These events allowed our local food partners to tell their stories and connect directly with the community.
In 2014 Oxendales Market expanded with the purchase Jim's Market (formerly RC Dicks) in West St Paul. This location allowed Oxendales Market to bring its local food producers into a new community. Many long-time staff members are still employed here and contribute to the vibrant community.
Another expansion took place in 2018 when Oxendales Market acquired Kortes Market and Widmers Supermarket. Oxendales Market was able expand selection in these locations and continued with the neighborhood involvement that the Kortes established.
Community is central to everything we do at Oxendales Market. Giving to local organizations, employing local residents, working with local producer.
All of this is possible because of the tireless efforts of the family members and friends that worked at or with Oxendales Market throughout the years.
